Issue a Refund

Learn to process refunds in Shopify effectively.

TL;DR

Access Orders
Open Shopify admin and click on Orders.

Select an Order
Choose the order to refund.

Click Refund
Initiate the refund process.

Choose products and set quantities for refund.

Click Refund to process it.

Step 1: Access Orders

  1. In your Shopify admin, locate the Orders section.

  2. Click on it to see the list of orders.

Step 2: Select an Order

  1. Select the order you want to process a refund for, e.g., order number 1001.

Step 3: Initiate Refund

  1. On the order details page, click the Refund button.

Step 4: Select Products for Refund

  1. Select the products you need to refund.

  2. Enter the quantity for the product you want to refund.

Step 5: Additional Refund Options

  1. Choose to restock the item if desired by checking the box.

  2. Provide a reason for the refund, which will only be visible to staff.

  3. Edit the refund amount if you want to partially refund the customer.

  4. Decide whether to send a notification to the customer upon finalizing the refund.

Step 6: Process the Refund

  1. Click the Refund button to process the refund.

  2. Understand that refunds for manual payments will not go to the customer's account.

  1. Refunds usually go back to the original payment method.

  2. For alternative processing methods, communicate with the customer.
